I received my Bachelor's of Arts degree from Bradley University in Peoria, IL. I have been teaching composition and literature since 2011. I began teaching in Chicago and transitioned to Dwight in 2014. While teaching in Chicago, I also worked as a tutor at Sylvan Learning Center. I currently teach Composition I, Composition II, English I, and Novel. Because I have worked with at-risk students and at Sylvan, I believe it is truly important for students to take a hands-on approach to learning as well as reflect on their own learning.
My literature courses do a lot of partner/group activities and class discussions where they work without me as much as possible to figure out what the text says before we go over the material together. As a result, my literature courses are required to annotate their texts. In my composition classes/units, students do a majority of their work in class as well as have conferences with me to make sure they are giving their best work and understand the assignment.
I get to school at 6:30 A.M. every morning; therefore, if students need extra help or need to make up an assessment, I am always available at this time. If students ask for me to stay after school for additional help or make ups, I am always happy to stay after to help.
Please view my website. This is for all of my students and has supplements and digital copies of what we do in class.
